Pico Duarte: The final leg to the summit

We`ve made it: The bust of Juan Pablo Duarte. 3175 m above sea level, 2150 m above our departure in La Cienaga.

View from the top: To one direction the distant view was quite good...

... on the other side we have been above the clouds. To this side the mountain rises steeply some hundred meters above the valley.

Day 4, the next morning: We are on our way back home, looking up to the summit.

It`s cold, it`s wet - it`s ice! 2500 m above sea-level Eduardo finds hailstones, obviously from the heavy thunderstorm the evening before. Last night we had temperatures of 7°C inside the cottage.

Drinking water from a river. The water up here is really clear and good not only for the animals.The horse carried our baggage, the mule carried me for about 2/3 of the time and Eduardo for the rest

Back down in the valley and arrival at Eduardo´s house after 2 1/2 days, 70 kilometers and about 3500 meters of altitude for each ascend and descend
